Restoring Tanzania's forests

In cooperation with the Changamoto Youth Development Organization and the local communities, we want to restore forests in the Magamba Nature Forest Reserve  in the Usambara mountains that were burnt down in the past. The planting, maintenance, and monitoring are done by the local communities, making sure the project not only has ecological, but also social and economic positive impacts.
For every reforestation tree in the Magamba Nature Forest Reserve, we also support one agroforestry tree in the local community farms. We believe this balanced allocation will significantly amplify the positive outcomes of our project and drive more substantial and sustainable change.

The aim of this project is to restore the loss of biodiversity and regain the nature of the Magamba Nature Forest Reserve by planting a variety of indigenous tree species.

The Magamba Nature Forest Reserve is the only nature forest reserve located in the Western Usambara Mountains, found between Lushoto District Council and Korogwe District Council. This forest has suffered several wildfires which were caused by human economic activities, such as local honey harvesting practices and the search for fuel wood. This project is going to be conducted at Nkundei Village which is among the 21 villages surrounding the Magamba Nature Forest Reserve.

The aim of this project is to restore the loss of biodiversity and regain the nature of the Magamba Nature Forest Reserve by planting a total of 1,250,000 trees. We are planting more than 11 different indigenous tree species to introduce as much diversity as possible.

Planting a diversity of indigenous tree species.

The Magamba Nature Forest Reserve is important for biodiversity conservation, enhancing eco-tourism, and the water supply of many villages. This restoration project is, therefore, going to provide benefits to all citizens living within Lushoto District and Tanzania as a whole.

The planting of indigenous tree species happens during the rainy seasons: from March to April and from October to November.

Reforestation

Go Forest does not focus solely on biodiversity but also aims to bring about behavioral changes to tackle the root causes of soil and deforestation problems. Each of us can have a positive impact on tomorrow’s world.

Care for communities

At Go Forest, we don’t just plant trees. We engage in much more, such as ensuring sustainable support for local communities. We do so by using the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which serve as a blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and in the future. Depending on the region and the project, you’ll be supporting different SDGs. Our project in Tanzania focuses on the following SDGs:

SDG15
SDG8
SDG17
SDG13 Climate Action

Let's plan(t) the future together.

Forests are an important player in the fight against global warming. A large portion of all the CO2 in the atmosphere is absorbed by the forests and stored in the form of organic carbon in the wood and soil.

Unfortunately, deforestation and land use change also contribute 17% to the greenhouse effect. One of the most important and simplest ways to counteract global warming is to create greater biodiversity by planting forests. This is exactly what we at Go Forest, in partnership with various companies, are doing.
